LOCAL OUTREACH

As “A Community of Servants sharing in the Word and Work of Jesus” we truly care about the community around us by sharing God’s love and work to others. We participate in all kinds of activities and partner with other organizations to help those around us who are in need. Below is a list of programs that we currently participate in and support by helping make a difference in the lives of the people who we serve in the community.

AT THRU-HIKER HOSTEL

(May - June)

Our congregation provides a place to shower, rest, watch movies, cook a meal and sleep for hundreds of hikers that take the challenge of hiking more than 2000 miles on the Appalachian Trail. Volunteers provide hospitality!

DISCIPLES KITCHEN

Prepares, provides, and serves a nutritious lunch once every six weeks at the soup kitchen at Second Presbyterian Church and breakfast once a month at Basic City United Methodist Church.

FOOD BANK PROGRAMS

We support a number of other programs to help feed those in need. These include the School Pantry Program and Augusta County Crop Walk.

HOMEBOUND MEALS FOR THE ELDERLY

(NOVEMBER)

Monday through Friday in November of each year members of our congregation pair up to deliver hundreds of hot nutritious meals to area elderly that are homebound. This is part of an ecumenical ministry coordinated through valley program services for the Elderly.

RENEWING HOMES OF GREATER AUGUSTA

Congregational volunteers assist homeowners with home repairs and construction projects.

VALLEY MUSIC ACADEMY

Our congregation provides space to the community not-for-profit organization that provides private music instruction to children and youth and organizes community youth choirs and a variety of other services, including scholarships to music students when needed. Contact the Valley Music Academy (VMA) at 540-949-7470 or visit their website at www.valleymusicacademy.org.

VIRGINIA SYNOD, ELCA HOSPITALITY MINISTRY

Members of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church set up meeting rooms, provide sound system support, welcome participants and provide meals and snack for a wide variety of Virginia Synod and ELCA meetings and conferences each year.

WARM SHELTER MINISTRY

Grace members prepare meals and are volunteer overnight hosts at the Waynesboro Area Refuge Mission (WARM). We sponsor a bedroom at the shelter and keep it supplied with linens and other essentials. Volunteer craftsmen constructed the room's furnishings.

WAYNESBORO CROP WALK

Held at Ridgeview Park. For years the Waynesboro CROP Walk has been one of the top five Walks in Virginia in walkers, money raised, and churches involved. You can access additional information about the Waynesboro CROP Walk by going to www.crophungerwalk.org or www.crophungerwalk.org/waynesborova.
